Liam Ryan took ownership and moved into his first store in Togher, a suburb on the southside of Cork city on 30th September 1991. In 2003, the store underwent an extension to its current size of 11,000 sq. ft. He opened his second store in Glanmire in February 1996, which first opened as a 3,500 sq. ft. Centra at Riverstown, Glanmire, Cork. Then in May 2000 the store moved to a new location over the bridge and opened a new 11,500 sq. ft SuperValu.
What happened next?
In 2010, it was decided to extend the store to cater for the thriving Glanmire community, the store greatly increased to a state of the art 26,000 sq ft. store together with a multi-storey car park with three levels of parking available for customers. The third SuperValu was built on the old Munster Carpets site in Grange, Douglas, Cork and opened for business in August 2005, the store won SuperValu Store of the Year three years later. In October 2018, the Grange store officially re-launched after it underwent a revamp, the store has been extended by 3,000 sq. ft together with new production facilities. In 2006, he opened a 2,500 sq ft. Centra in Aherla, Cork and a year later purchased the SuperValu in Kilmallock, Limerick. The Kilmallock store was renovated in 2014, it increased from its original size of 4,500 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft.
